City Kids learns about Africa.
Every year in our in our World Cultures program, we do a unit on Africa, and today was a busy day. After our co-op lesson, we headed over to Sankofa, a local African bookstore and cafe, where we were met by a graduate student of the African Studies Department at Howard University. He talked to the kids about some of his travels in Africa, and he showed them his drum, made in Ghana, which he graciously let the kids play. Hands on Drums, a local store, community, and perform

Soil and Geology.
Most kids love dirt! They love to play with it, squish it between their fingers, dig in it, rub it on their faces, and find treasure in it, including worms. So when we were invited to visit a horticultural center to have a lesson on soil and geology, of course we said YES! Check it out!

The Piscataway Nation at The National Museum of the American Indian (NMAI)
As part of our unit on Indigenous People of North America, our kids took a trip to The National Museum of the American Indian. We looked at some items made by a member of the Piscataway Nation, a man whom our kids had the pleasure to meet recently. Being able to go to the museum and read about his family and see his work on display was extra special. We also watched a short movie in their theatre, walked around the museum, and, of course, played in the Imagination Center.
