Ballet!

For our unit on Europe, one of our parents, a former dancer, gave the kids a lesson on dance during the Renaissance and how court dance became ballet. She taught the kids the Pavane and showed them footage of two different productions of The Nutcracker, one with Mikhail Baryshnikov and Kelsey Kirkland, and a more recent Nutcracker with Misty Copeland. Inspired by narrative ballet, our kids drew their own sets and and narratives. Their narratives included space battles, volcanoes, and rainbows, of course!
