Wagons, Log Cabins, Fiddles, and Banjos!
For part of our unit on North America, one of our kids really wanted to do a lesson on Laura Ingalls and how her family lived. She is reading the books with her mom, and she was excited to share her passion for these stories with her friends. So we learned a bit about what life was like for the Ingall's family, who lived in the midwest during the late 1880's, including how difficult it was to travel by wagon.
Lincoln Logs to demonstrate one of the ways they built houses!
For our field trip, a couple of local musicians came to do a lesson about music during the late 1800's. They gave the kids a great lesson about the fiddle, the guitar, and the banjo. Following, the kids pulled out their own instruments and had a hands-on lesson with our musical guests!
