Week 28: KID Museum, Songlines, Animals of Australia and Oceania, Capoeira, and the Arboretum.

Last week, City Kids continued their exploration of world cultures at KID Museum with activities related to New Zealand, The Great Barrier Reef, and Easter Island. The kids has a chance to use wool roving to needle felt into a cookie cutter shape of a sheep to make a small, soft 3D sheep.

Easter Island head masks!

They also made a group stop motion video of the Great Barrier Reef.

For World Culture Day, the kids continued learning about Aboriginal culture in Australia. One of the things the kids learned about is Songlines, a musical navigational method once used by indigenous Australians.

Here is a video our kids watched, explaining how longlines developed:

For Game Day, the kids learned about different animals in Australia and Oceania.

We looked at pictures of animals and people in captivating Dreamtime artwork.

Capoeira! Before working on their moves, the kids learned about the importance of warming up and stretching.

For Field Trip Friday, the kids finished out the week with a trip to the National Arboretum and had a tour of their beautiful bonsai museum.
